Past activities
I, together with Prof Paul Chilton and Prof Li Yi, organized the 3rd NDCC conference in Nankai University, 15-16 May 2009. About 80 discourse analysts attended the conference.
I was involved in organising the fourth international conference on "New Discourses in Contemporary China", held in Guangdong Foreign Studies University, 11-13 November, 2011. (See the Call for Papers,programme, and abstracts)
I, as the executive editor-in-chief, edited the second issue of the 2009 Journal of Chinese Sociolinguistics. see the contents.
Trusted by the Senate of the Association of Chinese Sociolinguistics, I organised the 8th International Conference on Chinese Sociolinguistics, which was held in September 2012 in my home University. (See the Call for Papers, programme)
I organized a round-table meeting on Discourse Studies at Tianjin University of Commerce, 17-18 April 2010. Fifteen scholars from different universities are invited to the meeting, which is a forum for free discussion on the way of doing (critical) discourse analysis in China.
I was invited to give a talk on "New discourses in contemporary China: Conceptualisation of the social" at the Centre for Nordic studies, Helsinki University, 1 April 2008. The talk is one of the the seminars of "Conceptual Histories of the World and Global Translations" convened by Prof. Bo Strath. This activity is also associated with the NDCC project. (abstract) For this "conceptual history and global translations" project, I also attended a number of meetings, e.g. its meeting at Bankok in March 2009, its meeting at Max-Plancs Institute of Social Development in Berlin 18-22 October 2009, and its meeting in Damascus 26-28 March 2010.
I was invited to give keynote speeches at conferences held at Dalian University of Technology, October, 2012 and Inner Mongolia University, June, 2012.
I, together with Professor Jianxin Ding, edited Nankai Discourse Studies Series. This book series publishes monographs and themed volumes that explore the complexity of discourse in relation to society, particularly to the socio-political transformations in contemporary China. It also publishes introductory textbooks that prepare students for research on discourse studies. (See series preface, and the advisory board)
